about

i wrote this one on my great friend steve easley's grand piano while he was putting me up for a spell in his beautiful arlington, va home. steve's an amazing guy--he knows everything about music, has seen more shows than I've played (by far) and has always been incredibly supportive of my music.

i don't write on the piano very often (i've never owned one or had lessons, so i'm just a plonker on the keys), but this one came all at once. less than 45 minutes and it was finished. i wish that happened more often. this tune is significantly sweetened by the strings, played by my pals amy cavanaugh and jen lewin. thanks, ladies!

this tune also appears on the International Pop Overthrow compilation Vol. 4. Beach Boy Al Jardine is also on that CD, doing a live version of "Heroes and Villains," one of my favorite Brian Wilson tunes. Really meant something to me, being on the same record as a real Beach Boy.

lyrics

i'll make some coffee you said i don't feel like trying anymore and i don't know why i feel like empty pockets wish i could answer your eyes but they're not familiar anymore and i don't know why you'd ever want to hurt yourself don't you try i try everything everyway everyone everyday every nite hear you say sweet dreams baby but i get tired so i just close my eyes...
