about

i had a girlfriend in grad school who'd had really severe spinal problems as a child and, as a result, had a serious scar running down the length of her back. by the time i met her it had long since healed, but some scars never stop signifying pain. my relationship with her ended right around the time i heard about audrey hepburn's passing and it just seemed to fit somehow.

A&M records' artist, jamie blake re-worked the lyrics on this one, recorded it, and it appears on her self-titled major label debut. it's a strong record that should have done a lot better than it did. check it out if you get a chance.

lyrics

audrey hepburn's dead but she didn't mean to go so soon like all the things i said to you didn't mean to be so cruel in love and tell the truth is she up in heaven wearing a cool white dress i know everybody goes too soon but audrey hepburn's dead why do i take those pills i hear they helped her sleep i said i swear i'll wait for you as long as i can drink as long as i'm not up in heaven wearing a cool white dress i never heard her singing but i swear i loved you best i loved you best

you unbuttoned your heart you took off your dress was it the weight of the past that held you back or the scar on your back that scared you to death
